Hescher is Cory Sinclair, an artist and musician from Houston who lives in Austin, TX.

“‘Hescher’ is what I spend most of my creative output writing for these days. I had to learn and grow as a musician, particularly as a songwriter and producer, when (Houston band) ‘The Manichean’ went on hiatus back in 2013.”

Sinclair’s first project working on his own as ‘Hescher’ was with Houston theatre company Dirt Dogs Theatre and their production of the dark and violent drama “A Steady Rain” by playwright Keith Huff in 2016. He assumed the roles of composer, sound designer, and live music performer during the show itself, on stage with the actors for the duration of the play.

Hescher’s new album is called “Music For Stage: A Steady Rain,” an original score that includes music written for and inspired by the play.

“It’s dark,” muses Sinclair, “coz the play is very dark, but there are these sweet moments of respite and reflection, some of my sweetest stuff yet.”

Dirt Dogs Theatre re-staged the production in 2022 with the original creative team and Sinclair was able to visit the world of the play again, refining certain musical pieces and writing entirely new ones. The album includes music from over a ten year span of time with the last ‘Manichean’ song, ‘Whispers,’ being the oldest and perhaps most profound.

“That song just fit,” Sinclair reflects. “We (The Manichean) had it waiting, finished and done for years before I decided that it worked well at the end of the play, so I put it at the end of the album along with a beautiful solo piano piece written and performed by Houston actor Andrew Love that we recorded at the Alley Theatre.”

Hescher also took home the 2022 Houston Theatre Award for “Best Sound And Score.”
